ESCANABA – A wolf was killed on U.S. 2 and 41 on the west end of Escanaba Monday night when it was hit by vehicle heading out of town.
The accident occurred just after 7 p.m. near the Comfort Suites motel. Escanaba Public Safety says the driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital for treatment. The wolf was turned over to Michigan Department of Natural Resources Law Enforcement.
The wolf was black in color and weighed about 130 pounds. One eyewitness said the animal was about 5 feet in length.
The wolf killed was not in a zone where wolf hunting was allowed in the Upper Peninsula. That season ends today.
