LANSING – Unemployment in the Upper Peninsula improved to 6.4 percent in September from 6.6 percent in August even though there are fewer people employed.
The Michigan Department of Technology, Management & Budget says 148,900 people were employed in the U.P. in September. That was 200 less than August but 4,300 more than a year ago when the unemployment rate was 8.2 percent.
Delta and Houghton Counties were right in the middle with 6.4 percent unemployment. Mackinac County again had the best unemployment rate in the state with 3.2 percent. Ontonagon County had the highest unemployment in the Upper Peninsula with 9.4 percent.
