ISHPEMING – Two people were severely hurt in an accident Thursday in Marquette County, including a 6-year-old girl that was not properly restrained in the vehicle.
The Ishpeming City Police say 17-year-old Cassidy Kudis of National Mine was traveling north on South Pine Street in a 2001 Chrysler Intrepid when she crossed the center line on a curve near Excelsior Street and struck a 2004 Ford pick-up truck driven by 43-year-old Lisa Holmgren of Ishpeming. Police responded at 6:45 a.m.
Police Chief Dan Willey said Kudis and a 6-year-old passenger were seriously injured in the accident.
Kudis underwent surgery Thursday afternoon at Marquette General Hospital and is listed in serious condition. The 6-year-old passenger is at the intensive care unit at Marquette General Hospital.
Police say the girl is not related to Kudis and was not properly restrained in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Holmgren was treated at Bell Memorial Hospital and released.
Police believe speed was factor in the crash. The Ishpeming Police were assisted by the Ishpeming Fire Department, Bell EMS and the Michigan State Police.
