ESCANABA — Two-year-old Maxwell looks forward to Thursday mornings at the Bonifas Arts Center. He loves to use the paints while his little sister plays with clay.
The Toddler Art program each Thursday is gaining a following of parents, grandparents and caregivers with young ones interested in exposing them to a variety of activities with other children their age.
Kimberly Rudden brings Maxwell and 1-year-old Isla each week to the Bonifas for the program. She serves as their nanny.
“Maxwell made a painting the first week that he shows everybody that comes into the house. He screams ‘art’ on Thursdays because he wants to come,” Kimberly said.
The Toddler Art program is led by Lorne Watson who has a 2-year-old son of his own. He lets the kids up to 3-years-old move from station to station depending on their interest. Then he ends with reading and songs.
Kimberly said it’s nice to have a place to go with the kids.
“They are getting to socialize and play with different types of art. It’s not too structured where they are wanting to be busy somewhere else,” she said.
The Toddler Art class is held each Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Registration is available online at bonifasarts.org.
