MARQUETTE – An adult teenager swimming in Lake Superior with friends at Little Presque Isle in Marquette drowned Sunday afternoon.
The Michigan State Police say Kenny Rubbet, 19, of Detroit found himself in distress while swimming with three other people. He was unable to reach the shore as the water became rough.
The other three in the group tried to help Rubbet but where unable to reach him.
Troopers were dispatched to the scene at 3 p.m.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Department dive team located the body in about 25 feet of water. Efforts to resuscitate him at Marquette General Hospital were unsuccessful.
Marquette General EMS, Marquette Township Fire Department and U.S. Coast Guard assisted at the scene.
