SAULT STE. MARIE — Fans at the Sault Ste. Marie Blue Devils football game Friday honored cancer survivors and remembered victims to the disease at the 2nd Annual Tackle Cancer event.
The special halftime ceremony at Van Critters Field was sponsored by War Memorial Hospital.
The event honored survivors in the fight against cancer and remembered loved ones who have passed away. During the awareness program, participants carried lights on the track in front of the stands as fans cheered. A moment of silence was held for victims of cancer.
Members of the football team wore pink socks and gear during the game.
T-shirts, sweatshirts and hoodies sold for the event featured a football graphic with the words “Tackle Cancer.” All proceeds from t-shirt sales and the evenings’ events go to the WMH Cancer Care Center.
