BOIS BLANC ISLAND – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering more than 100 parcels of state-owned land on Bois Blanc Island in Mackinac County for sale by sealed-bid auction.
The auction begins today, Oct. 23, and will run through Nov. 20.
Bois Blanc Island is approximately 12 miles long and 6 miles wide, with seven named inland lakes. The island is located on Lake Huron, 2.5 miles southeast of Mackinac Island. The island is accessible by ferry from downstate Cheboygan to Point Aux Pins and by airplane charter.
Parcels vary in character and size; many are made up of multiple platted lots in subdivisions with undeveloped roads. Land that does border an existing road may have as little as 30 feet of road frontage or may have several hundred feet of road frontage.
This is the first time the state has offered these island properties. Details about each property are available by visiting www.michigan.gov/landforsale and clicking on Fall Land Auction. See minimum bid amount, photos, map, property descriptions and conditions of sale. Instructions to submit a bid can be found on the printable bid form.
The minimum bid price is expected to start at $1,000. Sealed bids must be postmarked by midnight on Nov. 20, and will be opened on Dec.11.
Printed property information and bid forms may be requested from the DNR Real Estate Services Section, P.O. Box 30448, Lansing, MI 48909-7948 or by calling 517-373-1250.
These are tax-reverted properties isolated from other DNR-managed lands and do not meet the mission and goals of the department. Proceeds from the sale provide future outdoor recreation opportunities in keeping with the mission of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
