ESCANABA – Michael Sattem has been chosen to replace Leo Evans on the Escanaba City Council. The council chose Sattem over James Hellermann Thursday night in a three to one vote.
The two candidates were asked questions about the relationship of the council to administration, meeting attendance and what they might add to the council.
Sattem told the council members that he wants to give back to the community.
“I was born and raised here. I’d like to see this community continue to be a great place to raise a family, a safe place to raise a family,” he said.
He was immediately sworn in and took the empty chair at the front with the rest of the city council members. Following the meeting, Sattem said he is excited about being on the council.
I’m really honored that I’m going to fill this position and that I’m going to do everything that I can to work with the other council members on making the city a better place,” Sattem said.
Longtime council member and former mayor Leo Evans abruptly quit the council in April. Sattem will serve in his position until November of 2015.
