Listen to interview with Dennis Moberg and Ann Roman about Run for Joe Run/Walk
RAPID RIVER – The 7th Annual 5K Memorial Day Run/Walk in memory of Corporal Joe Micks of Rapid River will be held Monday. Micks was killed in action while serving in the U.S. Army in Iraq.
Run for Joe starts at 9 a.m. at the Rapid River Lions Club Pavilion with registration starting at 7 a.m.
Friends of Joe member Dennis Moberg said the event helps support a “Lest They be Forgotten” memorial in Rapid River.
“One of the next steps we want to do at the memorial is to get solar lights over there. Monthly utility bills are over $100 just for that one light,” Moberg said about the dust to dawn light that illuminates the American flag at night. “The other thing we are looking forward to in the future is establishing a scholarship program in Joe’s name at Rapid River High School for Bay College.”
Registration is availble online through Sunday night at friendsofjoe.org or Monday morning.
Friends of Joe is also hosting a ride on Sunday, June 1st. It will include stops at various veteran memorials in the central U.P.
