ROCK — The community of Rock celebrated Labor Day with its traditional Labor Day parade. It was part of the Rock Lions Club’s 73rd annual Labor Day celebration.
Parade participants were awarded $600 in prizes. Awards in given in three categories — Floats, Antique Cars and Truck and Walkers and Marchers.
Parade coordinator and Rock Lions Club member Joan Kitluk said the parade had a good mix.
“People really seemed to enjoy it and it was a good day,” she said.
Floats
Taking First Place for the second year in a row was Faith Lutheran Church in Rock. They received a $200 prize.
In Second Place for $100 was the Rapid River Lions Club. Cub Scout Pack 471 in Gladstone to the $75 Third Place prize.
Antique Cars and Trucks
The U.P. Steam and Gas Engine Association took the $75 First Place prize. The Tri-Township Volunteer Fire Department placed second for $50.
Walkers and Marchers
U.P. Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 111 took First Place for $50 in the Walkers and Marchers category. United Steelworkers placed second for $25.
This year’s theme was Rock: The Next 150 Years.
