Listen to the Interview with Jack Bergman
ESCANABA — Jack Bergman is a retired three star general living in Watermeet who is running for Congress.
He was called back to active duty after 9-11 and worked in Washington. He says it gave him insights on how to control federal spending.
“We have to reign in and get control of the spending and how it is done. We need to spend money. Let’s face it. You do. But, with my last six years of active duty being recalled after 911 being largely in Washington D.C. working fiscal issues, mainly Department of Defense in that case, I learned a lot about how things are done in our federal government and there’s a lot of room for improvement,” Bergman said.
Bergman is running against Tom Casperson of Escanaba and Jason Allen of Traverse City in the Republican primary in August.
He says he knows he does not have the name recognition the other two candidates have but he says he is committed to the campaign and already knows how to work in Washington if elected in November.
