ESCANABA – Delta County Sheriff’s K9, Jet, is getting body armor.
The Sheriff’s office says Jet is getting a bullet and stab proof vest from the non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s. It’s mission is to provide protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement throughout the United States.
Jet’s vest is sponsored by Sharon Peter of downstate Grosse Point Shores in memory of her father Det. Lt. Richard J. Scott who served 35 years with the Roseville Police. His name will be embroidered on the vest.
The vest weighs 4 to 5 pounds and is valued between $1,744 to $2,283. The donation to provide one protective vest for a law enforcement K-9 is $950.
Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.
