ST. IGNACE – A section of I-74 in Chippewa County will be closed to vehicles until late August to allow the Michigan Department of Transportation to replace a culvert.
Scheduled to begin June 17, I-75 will be closed between M-134 and M-48 while crews replace a large culvert less than a mile north of the Chippewa/Mackinac county line. Work is expected to last until late August.
MDOT is suggesting an alternate route for commercial vehicles. Motorists will be detoured via Mackinac Trail.
Legal loads can follow the official detour or seek an alternate route. No overweight or overwidth loads will be permitted on the official detour. While there is no signed commercial vehicle detour, northbound commercial vehicles can use an alternate route that includes taking M-134, M-129, and either M-80 or M-28 back to I-75.
The southbound alternate route will be the reverse.
