Listen to the interview with Lynn Soderberg, Players de Noc
ESCANABA – The musical “The Marvelous Wonderettes” opens Friday at the Bonifas Fine Arts Center. Director Lynn Soderberg said the cast of four women follow life’s changes from their high school prom in 1958 to their class reunion 10 years later.
“It is a funny show, it has 32 numbers in it, a live band on stage and they are rocking out and then the girls singing for their prom. So, it’s just the four girls and yet we have a lot of interaction between the four of them. There\’s some infighting and a little jealousy,” Soderberg said.
The four actors are Macy Neumier, Erica Mead, Amy Dier and Autumn Vandrese.
The musical takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where the four girls talk about their hopes and dreams.
“The wonderful thing about Act 2 is that you find out what has happened to each girl in the last ten years. It’s told not only through dialogue but also through the music,” Soderberg said.
The familiar songs include “Lollipop,” “Dream Lover,” “Stupid Cupid,” “Lipstick on Your Collar,” “Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me,” and “It’s My Party.”
Players de Noc normally presents only one musical each year. This musical was added to celebrate Players\’ 50th anniversary.
Tickets are available at the Bonifas or online at playersdenoc.org. The musical runs Friday and Saturday with a Sunday matinee and then again next Wednesday through Saturday.
