MARQUETTE – Charges are pending on two suspects for manufacturing meth following a search of campsite at the Perkins Park Campground in Marquette County. Another person was arrest on an outstanding warrant.
Troopers with the Michigan State Police were called Thursday to the campground after investigating an assault at a nearby store. Troopers found the suspect allegedly involved in the assault at a campsite in the campground and observed components related to the manufacturing of meth through the window of the camper.
Detectives from the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET) assisted the State Police from the Negaunee Post. UPSET Team Commander D/Lt. Timothy L. Sholander says troopers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and a small “pop-up camper” at that campsite. Certified meth responders assigned to UPSET searched the vehicle and camper and seized a “one pot” meth lab and all of the necessary components used to manufacture meth.
