ESCANABA — Erica Mead dons a wig to look more like Dolly Parton in the Players de Noc musical “9 to 5”. It is based on the 1979 movie that Parton starred in. Mead said it can be difficult to play a part or person that people know.
“She has a very distinct voice and a very distinct singing voice that is a little bit different from mine but it’s also really fun. There’s not too many chance to play somebody who is still living an still very active. It’s been a lot of fun,” Mead said.

She teams up with Samantha White and Karin Beverage to take on their chauvinistic boss.
Mead has been involved in other Players musicals. She says it helps to make winter go by faster and it’s an opportunity to pretend.
“It’s just a lot of fun. A lot of us have know each other for quite a few years so we just get to have fun making believe, singing and putting on customer. You really don’t get that many opportunities to do that as an adult so I think it’s great,” she said.
At one point, she gets to wear a cowboy hat sing a country song as she dreams about ways to take out her revenge against her boss.
The musical opens Friday, March 3 and runs March 4, 8, 9, 10, 11 with a matinee on Sunday, March 5.
