ESCANABA – John Malnar of Brampton says he likes helping people as a member of the Delta County Board of Commissioners. He is running for re-election as a Democrat in District 1.

As commissioner, Malnar earlier this year helped to organize visitations by union members in area schools to show students career options in the trades.

“I went to five high schools, talked with the principals. Each principal just loved the idea. They said if you could bring the union trades in here and and talk with the young adults about their careers, that would be great,” Malnar said.

He says one of his greatest challenges has been trying to convince people that a new jail is needed.

“Trying to get the word out to the citizens of Delta County on how badly we really need it. We’ve taken a lot of different steps trying to get it the cheapest we can. We can’t wait any longer. We need a new jail,” said Malnar.

Malnar is being challenged by Republican Gerry Tatrow of Garden.
