Listen to Jim Pinar’s interview with Lee Lopez, golfer at the Island Resort Championship
HARRIS – Lee Lopez is ranked 7th in the LPGA Symetra Tour in her rookie year and will be competing this weekend in the Island Resort Championship at the Sweetgrass Golf Course.
After four years at UCLA, she is working to get on the main tour. Although having fun playing a game, Lopez says it is work.
“You’re practicing for about three hours and then you’re out on the golf course for another four hours. And then your fitness is also a part of your job and nutrition. So I would say they girls are putting in a full eight to 10 hours a day,” Lopez said. “And you don’t get weekends off. For us, if you are working on the weekend it’s a good thing.”
The competition starts tomorrow but Lopez has been playing this week at the Sweetgrass Golf Course and will play a Pro-Am game today. She says she likes the layout of the course.
“I think it’s in great shape. It’s a really good layout. It’s fun because it’s a little different than what we have been play on the last few tournaments,” said Lopez.
The championship will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Ticket information is available at islandresortandcasino.com.
