LANSING – Four women from Escanaba testified at a Senate Transportation Committee hearing in Lansing Tuesday in support of a concept called “Complete Streets.” The concept is designed to enable safe road access for all users including pedestrians.
Annette Vanlerberghe, Bonnie Champeau, Marje Heller and Carol Schiltz talked about problems they experienced at 8th Avenue South and South Lincoln Road in Escanaba. They are working to get a traffic light installed at the intersection to allow pedestrians, especially those with disabilities, to cross the intersection safely.
Complete Streets legislation was first approved in 2010. The Senate Transportation Committee is chaired by Tom Casperson of Escanaba.
