Listen to the interview with Stephen Davis
ESCANABA — Stephen Davis said his appointment to the Bay College Board of Trustees this year has been rewarding. He is now running for re-election to remain on the board.
Davis was appointed to the board in January following the resignation of Steve O’Driscoll after it was learned he had a conflict of interest with the early middle college program at Bay as a Gladstone School Board member.
Davis said he has become an advocate for the college.
“Once I got on the board, I found out what a wonderful institution it really is as I got down into the nuts and bolts of it,” Davis said. “The other thing is that I absolutely love the people I’m serving with on the board. It is very cohesive. they have but one goal and that is student success and that place is achieving it.”
Student success is his driving factor as a board member. Although he says success is different for each student, Davis says the pride that students have who attend the college is universal.
“It says a lot about you that have graduated and chosen to go to Bay. When ever I would meet someone from Bay who have graduated their chest is filled with pride. You can sense it. So the success out there is what the student decides is success. And believe me, you can feel that out there,” Davis said.
Davis is running to fill the remaining four years of his position.
