Wood pellets now in short supply in the Upper Peninsula
WILSON – There is now a shortage of wood pellet fuel as people look for alternatives to heat their homes. Chad LaFave of Wilson heats his business with pellets and sells it to other homeowners. He said people are leaving their homes because they can’t get enough fuel to keep their furnaces operating.

Body found by hunters in Menominee County has been identified
MENOMINEE – The body found in Menominee County during the opening day of the firearm deer season has been identified. The Menominee County Sheriff’s Department says the remains are of 44-year-old Gerod F. Prince of Milwaukee. He was reported missing in September.

ESCANABA – Drug trafficking across the Michigan Wisconsin border is becoming a problem for Menominee and the Upper Peninsula especially with heroin because drug dealers apparently know that they face more lenient sentencing if caught in Michigan than they do in Wisconsin.

Three arrested in joint drug task force operation
MENOMINEE – Three people were arrested last week on drug charges in Menominee as a result of an interstate heroin trafficking investigation. The arrests were made Thursday and Friday by the Menominee County Wide Drug Enforcement Team and the Northeast Tri-County Drug Enforcement Team.

Massive search finds boy safe in Menominee County
HARRIS TOWNSHIP – A 10-year old boy in Menominee County was found Thursday night after a four hour search in Harris Township. The Menominee County Sheriff’s Department says Michael Christopher Getzloff was found in a structure less than ¾ of a mile from his home on LaBelle Lane.

Partial federal shutdown affects food distributions in the U.P.
ESCANABA – Food distributions for hundreds of elderly and poor people in the Upper Peninsula are being impacted by the partial federal government shutdown. Menominee-Delta-Schoolcraft Community Action Agency executive director Bill Dubord said they are being told that monthly supplemental food distributions can not be made until the government is completely reopened.

Police to target school zones for cell phone use, texting while driving
