Portion of M-185 on Mackinac Island to be repaved
MACKINAC ISLAND — A portion of M-185 on Mackinac Island is scheduled to be resurfaced starting Monday, Sept. 12. The Michigan Department of Transportation is investing $900,000 to mill and resurface 1.4 miles of M-185 from the west to the east city limits of Mackinac Island in Mackinac County.

Thousands cross Mackinac Bridge at Labor Day walk
ST. IGNACE — Beautiful weather greeted more than 45,000 people who came to walk the Mackinac Bridge on Labor Day. It was one of the largest crowds for the annual Mackinac Bridge Walk since the 50th anniversary walk in 2007, when 60,000 walked the bridge.

I-75 bridge construction over Pine River ends
NEWBERRY – The southbound lanes of I-75 in Chippewa and Mackinac counties reopened Wednesday, bringing the summer’s I-75 detour to an end. Only temporary single-lane closures will be required on the southbound lanes during the coming weeks as the project is wrapped up.

Whiteout conditions, multiple vehicle accident closes U.S. 2
GARDEN CORNERS – A multiple vehicle accident closed U.S 2 Friday morning between Forest Highway 13 and Garden Corners and by early afternoon whiteout conditions in Mackinac County closed the highway from St. Ignace to Worth Road. Adverse weather conditions also closed the MackinacBridge as a winter storm with strong winds moved across the eastern Upper Peninsula.

BOIS BLANC ISLAND – The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is offering more than 100 parcels of state-owned land on Bois Blanc Island in Mackinac County for sale by sealed-bid auction. The auction begins today, Oct. 23, and will run through Nov. 20.

ATV driver leads police on high speed chase
ENGADINE – An Engadine man led police on chase after his ATV was stopped Saturday on U.S. 2 near Gould City in Mackinac County. The Michigan State Police say Robert Joseph Frey, 37, slowed down when troopers attempted to pull him over and then took off at a high rate of speed when they approached the vehicle.
