Natural Resources Commission to hold meeting in Ironwood

Ironwood to receive federal dollars to fight blight
LANSING – Ironwood is one of 12 cities in the state to benefit from a $75 million federal program to combat blight. Gov. Rick Snyder today announced that the funding for the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) has been approved by the U.S. Department of Treasury.

Highland Copper to purchase Copperwood Project in U.P.
LONGUEUIL, QUEBEC – The Canadian company Highland Copper and Orvana Minerals Corporation have entered into an agreement for Highland to acquire the Copperwood Project in Gogebic County. The $25 million purchase is expected to be completed by April 30.

Ruling expected on invasive swine kept in the Upper Peninsula
MARQUETTE – A hearing was held Monday in Marquette County Circuit Court concerning the state’s listing of certain pigs as invasive species. The hearing combined challenges from pig farmers Roger and Brenda Turunen of Baraga County, game ranch owner Greg Johnson of Marquette County and pig pet owner Matthew Tingstad of Gogebic County. Judge Thomas Solka is expected to issue a ruling in 30 days.

Ramsay man arrested in Minnesota for B&E in Gogebic County
WAKEFIELD – An Upper Peninsula man was arrested Monday in Minnesota for a home invasion in Gogebic County. The Michigan State Police say Anthony Michael Adams, 31, of Ramsay was extradited back to Michigan following his arrest by Shakopee City Police in Scott County, Minnesota.
