Summer distributions nearly depletes Salvation Army food pantry
ESCANABA – The Salvation Army in Escanaba has nearly emptied its Food Pantry following the heavy demand during the summer. They are looking for supplies to replenish shelves. There have been increased requests with July and August depleting the Pantry’s supplies.

Police to target school zones for cell phone use, texting while driving

Grant supports equipment purchase at Delta County Search and Rescue
ESCANABA – The Delta County Search and Rescue Team was awarded a $4,000 grant from the Robert and Jeanine Dagenais Foundation. Team director Mike Sands says the funds will be used to purchase 10 VHF pager radios that are to assist in the team’s interoperability.

Fisherman injured in boating accident on Big Bay de Noc
FAIRPORT – A fisherman was injured Monday night in a boating accident on Big Bay de Noc. The Delta County Sheriff’s Department says a 33-foot pleasure boat operated by Richard Ranguette of Garden was traveling off of Fairport when he struck an 18-foot fishing boat operated by Gregory Frazier of Rock.

Enrollment down at Bay College as high school numbers drop
ESCANABA – Fewer students are returning to Bay College Monday in Escanaba and Iron Mountain than last year. Aug. 26 is the first day of the fall semester. Laura Coleman, Bay College president, says the decrease is not unexpected as fewer students are graduating from area high schools.
