BARAGA — Significant rainfall over several days has forced the early closure of campgrounds at Baraga State Park in Baraga County and Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in Ontonagon County. The modern campgrounds at both parks were closed Wednesday for the remainder of the season.

Olympic luge medal could spark interest in the sport, former U.P. luge athlete says
ESCANABA – A former National Luge Champion from the Upper Peninsula says Arin Hamlin’s bronze medal in the luge competition in Sochi will increase interest in the sport in the U.S. Hamlin was the first American to ever medal in the singles event.

Ruling expected on invasive swine kept in the Upper Peninsula
MARQUETTE – A hearing was held Monday in Marquette County Circuit Court concerning the state’s listing of certain pigs as invasive species. The hearing combined challenges from pig farmers Roger and Brenda Turunen of Baraga County, game ranch owner Greg Johnson of Marquette County and pig pet owner Matthew Tingstad of Gogebic County. Judge Thomas Solka is expected to issue a ruling in 30 days.

Hunter, 78, found after search in U.P.
