Players de Noc opens musical ‘Gypsy’ at Bonifas Theater
ESCANABA — The large cast of 36 actors for Players de Noc’s musical Gypsy includes nine elementary school students as it follows the life of Gypsy Rose Lee from childhood to burlesque performer. It’s a musical that director Lynn Soderberg has long wanted to do.

Country music’s Carly Pearce to headline U.P. State Fair
ESCANABA — CARLY PEARCE, the new voice of country, takes the stage at the U.P. State Fair on Monday, August 12. Carly Pearce is a 27 year old who grew up in a small town in Kentucky. At the young age of 11, Pearce fronted a Bluegrass band to perfect harmonies.

A culinary arts class shows how to prepare Greek food at home
ESCANABA — Spanakopita was on the menu last night at the Bonifas Arts Center. The traditional Greek Spinach Pie includes spinach, feta cheese, green onion, eggs cottage cheese and lots of butter. Christina Economopulos and her sister, Elaine Christofilis, taught a large group of people how to make the Greek food.

Artists unveil mural depicting Upper Peninsula, lighthouse, state motto
A large mural was unveiled Wednesday on the side of the law offices of DeGrand, Reardon & Hall in Escanaba. Artist Jim Finlan says he is glad to be a part of beautifying downtown Escanaba.
