ESCANABA – Bay College has a new athletic name and logo. It was unveiled Monday night at the Upper Peninsula State Fair.
The teams will be know as the Bay College Norse. The college plans to begin men’s and women’s basketball and cross country competition in 2017.
“I am excited for this announcement of our new graphic identity program, which I think is both a modern appearance and something that fits within the Bay College tradition,” said Matt Johnson, director of athletics. “I think our new family of logos will be well-received by our alumni, fans, Bay College community and most importantly, our student-athletes.”
Johnson says the branding initiative and logo redesign will help standardize the logos and help promote a consistent look among the the College’s four intercollegiate athletic teams.
Bay President Laura Coleman says the name is based on the original team name of the Norseman in the 1960’s and 70’s.
The new logo will begin to appear at athletic department facilities, on apparel, and in recruiting materials.
