ESCANABA – The first Bay College Golf Outing took place 24 years ago and was the first charity golf outing in Delta County. It started because many students cannot afford a college education. In fact, with 72 percent of Bay students qualifying for financial assistance, the need for help through scholarships is great. The scholarships that are awarded provide a bridge of opportunity to the students who receive them, while simultaneously advancing education in the community.
Since 1991, the Bay College Swing for Scholarships Golf Outing has raised over $270,000 helping 222 students complete their degree. For many of the golfers who participated in this year’s event, this is not their first time.
“I’ve been attending this event for all 24 years,” said golfer Mike Nardi. “It’s one of my favorite events. It goes to a great cause for the scholarships at Bay College.”
Foundation Vice President Kim Carne says, “The backing this community gives Bay College is amazing, and I cannot thank the golfers, sponsors and supporters enough for their continuing support this year. I especially want to thank the generous businesses that sponsored the event at the master level.”
Sponsors included CMDA – Attorneys at Law, Crawford Funeral Homes, EMP, ESG Experience, First Bank, Niagara Logistics, Premier Real Estate, Schneider, Larche & Haapala, Stewart Manufacturing and UP State Bank.”
Founded in 1972, the Bay College Foundation connects businesses, organizations and individuals to the rewards of changing lives and advancing communities with higher education.
