ENGADINE – An Engadine man led police on chase after his ATV was stopped Saturday on U.S. 2 near Gould City in Mackinac County.
The Michigan State Police say Robert Joseph Frey, 37, slowed down when troopers attempted to pull him over and then took off at a high rate of speed when they approached the vehicle. Police say Frey was driving on both sides of the highway, nearly hitting vehicles and at one point driving into a patrol car, causing minor damage.
The chase went from Gould City to Engadine. It ended when Frey drove into Millecoquins Lake. He landed about 20 feet from shore. After a short stand-off, officers waded into the water to arrest him.
He was arrested for fleeing and eluding and operating under the influence of alcohol. He is currently out on bond pending a preliminary hearing in 92nd District Court.
The Michigan State Police was assisted by the Mackinac County Sheriff’s Department.
