ESCANABA – Another pair of brothers have won Grand Champion and Reserve Champion at the U.P. State Fair. This time, it was for market goats.
Jett and Joey Starzynski of Wallace won Grand Champion and Reserve. Jett, 13, says it was a bit of work to win grand champion.
“I just walk my goat every day, getting them prepared for it. Showing them good and setting them up good,” Jett said about the process. “I had to pull him a little bit and I had to brace him and set him up and move his legs so he stretched out nice.”
Joey, 15, has had two grand champion goats in the past. He says he was happy for his little brother this year.
“I was just happy for him because he has never won before and I’ve won before in the competition so I was just happy that he beat me in the competition,” he said.
Jaxon and Jase Moker’s steers won Grand Champion and Reserve Champion on Tuesday. Even more unusual than two sets of brothers winning top positions, the four are cousins.
