Unemployment in Upper Peninsula edges up in July
LANSING – Unemployment in the Upper Peninsula increased in July to 6.2 percent. The statewide average was 5.4 percent. The department of Management, Technology and Budget says 132,800 were employed in the U.P. in July, down 600 from a year ago and 400 from June.

The National Park Service important for tourism in Upper Peninsula
MUNISING – The National Park Service turns 100 years old today. With three national parks in the Upper Peninsula, the park service is important to the Upper Peninsula’s tourism industry. The U.P. is home to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Keweenaw National Historic Park and Isle Royale National Park.

GLADSTONE — Police in Delta and Menominee Counties have received an increased number of calls involving a phone scam where the caller states that a grandchild or other family member has been in an accident and needs money for medical treatment or bond money.

Upper Hand Brewery to expand distribution into Minnesota
ESCANABA – Upper Hand Brewery plans to begin distribution of its beers in Minnesota in early 2017. Minnesota will be the third state where the brewery’s beer will be available. Upper Hand’s current distribution includes the Upper Peninsula and Northern Wisconsin.
